Matt O'Leary

I’m a copywriter in Los Angeles. For the past four years I’ve been the sole in-house writer for skincare brand Skin Factory LA and its education brand Grain.co, writing everything from product pages to commercial scripts.

Before brands, I spent twenty years in film, first as an actor and then as a writer and director, credited as Cai O’Leary. My feature NUMB is streaming on Amazon Prime Video, and my films have screened at Cannes and FrightFest. It turns out the two jobs use the same muscle: find the one true thing, and say it as few times as possible.

I’ve written for luxury fragrance, beauty and skincare, health and wellness, and engineering. The job is always the same: find the voice a brand already has, and make it impossible to ignore.

I grew up in Snowdonia, North Wales, surfing, climbing and hiking. These days you’ll find me surfing Topanga, Santa Barbara, anywhere with a decent swell, or out on the trails with my wife and our two rescue dogs.
